Shaped by thousands of years of history and culture, and enriched by the powerful legacy of the Persian Plateau, the vast blue waters of southern Iran came to be known as the Persian Gulf. Throughout history, Iranians established great civilizations here, founding magnificent cities and thriving harbors. They advanced urban life, agriculture and animal husbandry, transregional communication and postal systems, navigation, and international land and sea trade, while making lasting contributions to art and architecture—from ancient domes, qanats, and wind towers to vibrant traditions of music, dance, and local instruments.
Drawing on this deep-rooted civilization, they governed a vast geography across the ancient world. A journey to the Persian Gulf and its beautiful islands is best enjoyed in autumn and winter, offering the chance to explore one of history’s most important crossroads of three continents. The tour concludes with visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites in southwestern Iran, dating back to the Achaemenid and Sasanian eras.
